The Records Management field is changing rapidly. The author suggests that managers need to stay on top of knowledge and skills in four areas to remain relevant. In addition to Information Management skills, a successful manager will have Domain Skills, in-depth knowledge of his industry and its regulators; Professional Skills, in particular the ability to make a strong business case for proposed initiatives; and Technology Skills related to Information Management in order to fully participate in the selection and management of systems.
