The first wave of COVID-19 workplace lawsuits is here

From: Advisory.com

"Major employers nationwide are facing a wave of lawsuits filed by workers claiming they contracted the novel coronavirus as a result of their employer's negligence—a trend that's sparking debate over whether Congress should grant businesses liability protections during the epidemic."

Among others Safeway, Walmart and Tyson are all facing lawsuits claiming they were negligent in their response to COVID-19 by not following CDC and OSHA guidelines which put employees at risk.

Pending legislation could limit employer responsibilities, impose caps on damages, or eliminate their liability completely- but the final version of such legislation is uncertain.
